The original article was published in 2013 and most of the information is still very relevant today. Some things have changed, however, such as the proliferation of smart devices, the emergence of home energy control systems and the low cost of clean energy systems, especially for solar (site) electricity.
Since 2003, much as been learned working with Historic Green to salvage, restore and preserve damaged buildings located in the Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans, Louisiana (NOLA). Volunteers comprised of local residents, skilled trades people and students willing to spend their spring breaks to learn how to save damaged buildings and make them more resilient.
Floods, hurricanes, wildfires, tornadoes and other disasters are constantly disrupting life for home and business owners alike so the original article also contains helpful references and contact details for making buildings greener, safer and more durable. Updates will be posted to this Save Energy Blog website and other media regarding how to obtain the latest details for saving energy and also your living environment.
